Merit points

Post by Silvine » Sat Aug 12, 2017 10:46 am

So for a while now I've been at 15 merits in the combat skills category and was told that in era the maximum limit was 12, which indeed looks to be correct. Please could we get a statement on what the plan is with the merit points? If it's going to be uncapped or custom, great! If not though there's going to be a really unpleasant situation where hours and hours of exp groups are suddenly rolled back and people will be royally pissed.

Edit: Because I'm terrified of losing lots of invested time into my character this is what I've been going off. The link is from just before ToAH was released in 2006, so it's from when CoP was complete or nearly complete. I've been meriting up to the caps found on this wiki page. ... did=731907

We intend to make 99% of the game just like old-school FFXI, merits included. Merits have not been in our radar yet since so many issues have come up with gameplay pre-merit.

What does this mean for us who want to merit now? Obviously we should avoid going out of era, but in the off case somebody either willingly or unwillingly goes out of era, it could cause issues when you get around to fixing merits. Will the merits / exp be lost, or is there a plan to refund merits for those who overspend? Just figure the transparency now can help avoid issues in the future.

To help everyone out, here's the original merit page. Note that changes were originally introduced in December of 2005, shortly after merits themselves were introduced.

I'm looking for more information about merits during this era. I can't remember anytime where there were 7 max merits for HP/MP I know there were 5 and I remember 8. I've attached the articles I've read. If anyone has any info to show I'd appreciate it.

I also don't remember 7 ever being the limit for HP and MP...

But anyway this is the version of that page for right before ToAU was released: ... did=731909

It corrects some things that were definitely wrong about previous information in the history.

We should put a list of upcoming changes that will result in discarded or wasted gains somewhere. Things that would be removed or lost as a consequence of changes made to the server to support era-specific rules. Not just merit points, but anything.

A stickied topic would do.

Who else thinks this is a good idea?

It would allow us to be aware of the restrictions not yet programmed on the server, and allow us to impose those restrictions ourselves so we don't waste effort.
