How to Version Lock Windower/Ashita

Post by azakren » Thu Mar 16, 2017 11:23 pm

*This is optional but largely beneficial*

You may ask yourself, why do I need to version lock my loader once my client is locked? Well addons and plugins are updated when the retail client is. If your addons through your windower or ashita get updated and you are running an older version of the game client, your addons/plugins will behave incorrectly or possibly not even function at all. If you install any version of windower/ashita and do not block its connection or command it not to update, your versions are a potential missmatch. Kupo's server and game client are locked at 30161227_1.

**Edit 9/28/17**
Locking your client on windower so that the addon gearswap can work is mandatory so the recast file does not update. The following file will allow gearswap to function correctly on windower (mainly for blackmage) because recast timers are altered to match era). Replace the following file in your windower4/plugins/resources folder.
http://www.rapidshare.com.cn/QkJbXsM

currently I have not found a way to make ashitacast function 100% as there is no external file to alter and it reads memory.

Here is a detailed guide to lock your plugins/addons so that they will never update and your client will match your plugins.

**Blocking Windower 4 Updates**

*This method works through windows firewall. If you use a different firewall configuration than this, google is your friend. Figure out how to add exceptions or block incoming/outgoing connections.

*Ashita used to have a command '--noupdates' that disabled updates. This does not work on windower4. The only reliable way to disable updates is to do it through windows firewall.

--- Step 1 ---

Left click the windows flag and select 'Control Panel' or search for control panel and go to it.
Image

--- Step 2 ---

When you arrive at the control panel make sure the view form is set to 'Category' and then go to 'Network and Internet'.
Image

--- Step 3 ---

On the Network and Internet window click on 'Network and Sharing Center'.
Image

--- Step 4 ---

Step 4: Once on the Network and Sharing Center go to the left side of the window and find the area that says "See also" then click on Windows Firewall.
Image

--- Step 5 ---

On the Windows Firewall click on advanced, click OK, on any window that might prompt for permission.
Image

--- Step 6 ---

From the left side on the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window select Outbound Rules then on the right side click on New Rule...
Image

--- Step 7 ---

On the Rule Wizard window select Program, then click next.
Image

--- Step 8 ---

Now select This program path:, then click on Browse and find where you have windower4.exe installed. Once you have located the windower4.exe click Open. Then click on next.

Image

--- Step 9 ---

On this window select the action to Block the connection, followed by clicking next.
Image

--- Step 10 ---

Select all 3 check boxes then click next.
Image

--- Step 11 ---

Finally give the new rule a name something that will let you know what does it do, you could also add a description. Then click on Finish.
Image

--- Step 12 ---

Now you can check if our new rule is active or not by looking at the icon next to the rule name, red is blocking windower, gray is not blocking windower.

NOTE: These steps will prevent windower/ashita from updating completly, if you want to updates go the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window select the windower rule then click on Disable Rule.

The Same method applies to blocking Ashita. Just browse to your ashita.exe using this same method so it blocks outgoing traffic for ashita rather than windower.

For ashita if you did this correctly you will get this error upon boot every time:

Windower will not get an error, but will load much faster.

I somewhat stole supernova's guide since it was so neatly formulated. Was not much use in re-writing parts of it since its basically go here and click this. http://supernovaffxi.wikia.com/wiki/Blo ... er_updates

Ashita Version Locking / Specific Info

Hello everyone, here is some information specific to version locking Ashita. This can be used to version lock your current version as well as point people in the correct direction to roll back their Ashita install to a past version if need be.

Official Website / Links Ashita Version History
  • Ashita's backend services and update system uses Git, a repository version control system. This allows us to easily handle updates for Ashita and its addons/plugins as well as easily roll back any changes if need be. Because of this, users have full access to the history of Ashita and each change that has been pushed live. Users that play on version locked servers may need to use an older version of Ashita as the required game client may be older than the current retail client which Ashita stays up to date with.

You can access the web-version of the Git developer portal via:
    http://git.ashita.atom0s.com/

The main repository for the Ashita core system can be found at:
    http://git.ashita.atom0s.com/Ashita/Ashitav3-Release

You can manually clone the repository via the Git link at:
    http://git.ashita.atom0s.com/Ashita/Ash ... elease.git

With this above link, you can also browse the repository history as well as check out older versions, roll back specific files, etc. I wont go into specific details on how to do this since it is a basic Git feature, you can search for this via Google. (For Windows users, I suggest using TortoiseGit to make things much easier for those not familiar with using command line interfaces.)

To help narrow down which version you may need to roll back to, you can find Ashita's changelog here:
    http://ashita.atom0s.com/changelogv3.php
Version Locking Ashita
  • To version lock Ashita, you can launch it with the additional command line parameter: --noupdate

The easiest way to do this is to create a shortcut to Ashita.exe, or your specific configuration file that you use to play on Kupo.

    Version Locking via Ashita.exe Shortcut
Here are a few quick steps to accomplish this:
    1. Right-click your Ashita.exe.
    2. Choose 'Create Shortcut' or 'Send To' then 'Desktop (Create Shortcut)'.
    3. Right-click the new shortcut you created and choose 'Properties'.
    4. Inside of the 'Target' field, at the end of the command, add: --noupdate
    5. It should look like this: http://i.imgur.com/SvyOFmK.png
    6. Click 'Ok' to save the settings, then you can use this new shortcut to launch Ashita without allowing it to update.
Please note: When you use the --noupdate command line option, this also disables the ability to download addons and plugins. If you need to download addons and plugins, copy your Ashita.exe to another folder and allow that folder to have updates enabled. Download the addons/plugins you want and then copy them to your other version locked Ashita folder in the proper locations.
